Monday, February 8: chapter 13 reading

In class: we are listening to chapter 15 of Born a Crime today. The ideas from this chapter will be useful in the writing we will have on Tuesday and Wednesday.

tuck shop- (noun)-typically one on school premises, that sells candy, snacks, and soft drinks

queue- (noun)- a line

rand- (noun)- South African unit of currency... worth about 10 cents 

dispossessed- (adjective)- Not owning

disenfranchised- (adjective) Not have a legal right; often applied to voting rights.

Gomorrah-from the Old Testament. one of two ancient cities near the Dead Sea, the other being Sodom, that were destroyed by God as a punishment for the wickedness of their inhabitants 

yarmulke - also known as a kippah (noun)- a Jewish rimless cap
