Thursday / Friday October 8 and 9. Connecting setting to imagery: personal refective writing

 



As some of you will not be here on Thursday, this is a two-class-day project. We have explored imagery this week, but now it's time to put literary imagery into your words and connect this to setting.

Take a look at the above images as a reminder. Note that setting has three essential parts: time, place and environment.  Note carefully all the aspects that might make up a setting. 

Assignment: You are writing a description of a setting in a minimum of no fewer than 150 words. That is not even one page. This is due by Saturday, October 10 at 6. You should not need more than one hour to complete this. That means if you are productive in or out of class on Thursday and Friday, there should be no work over the long weekend. If you receive extended time, please submit by Sunday evening. 



Follow these steps

 

  1. Conjure a memory, one that has stayed with you over the years 2. Take a few free-form notes about anything you remember. These are not formal sentences. 3. Where did it take place? 4. What do you see, taste,hear, smell?                 DETAILS!  Use the graphic organizer below. 5. Who was there?   6. What did it feel like to be you then? Transport yourself to this time and place. Keep jotting down your notes. 7. Now, de-people the scene, and describe just the setting using concrete, significant details. 8. Work to include vivid details that rely on every sense: touch, taste, smell, sound, and sight.

Thursday, September 17 e-etiquette

  Happy Thursday Class notes:   I am still missing some self slides from folks. If you were someone who receives extended time, you have until 6 pm to send me your work. I have graded most of the ones I have received. Check out the grade and accompanying notes on your powerschool.  I have also put in the 100 points for your course criteria sheet.
